Biography

Beau A. Nelson, MA, LCSW was born and raised in Dallas, Texas.  He graduated from Greenhill School and went on to Texas A&M University in College Station for his bachelor’s degree.  After graduating from A&M he enrolled in Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and graduated with a master’s degree in Theology before going on for further graduate work at The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work.

Beau’s practice began as a therapist and later director of hospital based behavioral health and chemical dependency programs.  His experience includes extensive work with inpatient and outpatient consumers of mental health and substance abuse services.  In order to pursue other interests he left the hospital setting and went on to work in the management and research areas of clinical trials for psychotropic medications.

Desiring to return to psychotherapy, he began an outpatient practice of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT).  Beau first began his study of REBT in graduate school and has since extensively, through study and practice, specialized in using REBT in his practice.  He has obtained both his Primary Certificate and Advanced Certificate in REBT from Dr. Albert Ellis, founder of REBT, through the Albert Ellis Institute in New York City.  He is going on to the highest level of REBT training, Associate Fellow, at the Institute in 2006.

In addition to counseling and psychotherapy he is a lecturer, teacher, coach, and consultant.  He lectures on REBT and clinical issues, teaches principles related to Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment, clinical practice, as well as management and marketing issues related to behavioral health practices.  Beau coaches professionals and individuals facing life changes, job transitions, and assists people needing help in reaching their goals (but that do not require psychotherapy).  He also consults with therapists and psychiatrists looking to market and build their practices through the work of Behavioral Practice Consulting Solutions.
