Dr. Beau A. Nelson, DBH, LCSW was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Greenhill School and went on to Texas A&M University in College Station for his bachelor’s degree. After graduating from A&M he enrolled in Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and graduated with a master’s degree in Theology before going on for further graduate work at The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work. His doctoral degree is from Arizona State University as a Doctor of Behavioral Health.
Dr. Nelson's practice began as a therapist and later director of hospital based behavioral health and chemical dependency programs. His experience includes extensive work with inpatient and outpatient consumers of mental health and substance abuse services. In order to pursue other interests he left the hospital setting and went on to work in the management and research areas of clinical trials for psychotropic medications. Desiring to return to psychotherapy, he began an outpatient practice of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). Dr. Nelson first began his study of REBT in graduate school and has since extensively, through study and practice, specialized in using REBT in his practice. He has obtained both his Primary Certificate and Advanced Certificate in REBT from Dr. Albert Ellis, founder of REBT, through the Albert Ellis Institute in New York City. Dr. Nelson maintains a private practice while serving as the Director of Clinical Services at a local treatment center where he leads the clinical and Neurosciences departments that treat patients with health issues, substance use disorders, mental health diagnoses, and co-occurring disorders. |
