Dr. Beau A. Nelson, DBH, LCSW was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Greenhill School and went on to Texas A&M University in College Station for his bachelor’s degree. After graduating from A&M he enrolled in Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and graduated with a master’s degree in Theology before going on for further graduate work at The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work. He then went on to complete his doctoral degree from Arizona State University.
Dr. Nelson's practice began as a clinician and then moved toward leadership roles as well as teaching, research, speaking and consulting. His experience includes work with community, hospital-based, and telehealth based services. Dr. Nelson is licensed in Texas and Florida and is a board approved supervisor in both states. He is a widely recognized speaker on behavioral health issues, the application of neuroscience-based treatments, and excellence in integrated behavioral healthcare for mental health and substance use disorders. Dr. Nelson writes extensively on health and wellness and is featured in many publications. He works closely with municipalities, unions, employers, and specifically with first responders, to encourage awareness, offer practical health and wellness solutions, and support consumers in their recovery journeys. With regards to his practice of psychotherapy, he began an outpatient practice of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) more than twenty-four years ago. Dr. Nelson first began his study of REBT in graduate school and has since extensively, through study and practice, specialized in using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and REBT in his professional practice. He has obtained both his Primary Certificate and Advanced Certificate in REBT from Dr. Albert Ellis, founder of REBT, through the Albert Ellis Institute in New York City. He is also a Certified Telehealth Practitioner in Florida. Currently, Dr. Nelson maintains a limited private practice while serving as Chief Clinical Officer for a nationally recognized treatment facility for behavioral health and a nation-wide telehealth provider organization. |
